Freycinet National Park

6th December

At Freycinet, five of us did the climb up Mount Amos - a quite steep and tricky climb over pink granite rocks - but the views of the bays on either side were worth it! This is the view of wineglass bay - so called for its shape, but also because it was a place where they did a lot of whaling and the sea would turn red from the blood of the whales.

A lot of bays have formed like this. Over time the sand has built up between two islands to form a channel and eventually, a peninsula.

Ilse wanted to do a handstand pic at the top:

The climb down was also a little treacherous - you wouldn't want to do it in the wet! I slipped and landed on my bum at one point - granite is very hard - ouch!

We visited another pretty beach where I had a swim. It was really nice.

We finished off with a trip to Cape Tourville lighthouse - you can see whales from here if you're lucky. Sadly it isn't whaling season but they did see one last week. There are also great white sharks off the coast. One of Joe's friends was diving, and one swam past him. He had a panic attack - not surprisingly!

Then, back to Hobart where our trip ended.
