Malaysia

The current Hostel is an area of George town known for its street art

Last night I ventured out for dinner - pictures of the street nearby

and the Hostel where I'm staying

I was going to return to the place I had eaten the day before but they weren't there - maybe because it was Friday (the holy day)....who knows?

I try to choose places that are busy and there are lots of locals - or at least Asian people (as there are plenty of Asian tourists).

Many of the street stalls claim they have Michelin stars - they were queuing at this one!

There are a lot of Chinese food places as there is a very Chinese influence in Malaysia, and of course they have little India, for all your curry needs, plus western style places - there's absolutely no shortage of places to eat!

The ladies from Singapore, from the Tasmania tour had given me a list of foods to try in Malaysia and a restaurant recommendation for Georgetown  - they were real foodies! - but when I went to the restaurant they said, called Christoph's (run by a German man I believe) - it looked lovely but quite posh & not really my thing.

I stopped off in a small cafe where the woman was really friendly and helpful - like all the Malaysians so far! - and I chose braised Tofu & rice - there was a lot of weird (to a westerner) stuff on the menu like 'braised pork stomach', 'Chicken feet', 'Chicken Gizzard' and 'Pork Ear'.

The drink I had with it was called White Nutmeg and was a sweet iced water flavoured with Nutmeg - it was so delicious - as was the Tofu. It was cheap - 7.50 ringgits in total - but I suppose the portions are fairly small - enough for me though. I was trying to look cool using the chopsticks and did OK until the end, when the sticky rice became 'un-sticky'  mixed with the sauce and then I resorted to the fork!

I had a walk down to one of the Jettys - which are lit up at night - it was peaceful. This one is called Lee Jetty.

It's kind of how I imagined Malaysia to be in a romantic vision.

I do feel blessed and so lucky to be having these experiences.
I am enjoying my book at the moment.
Like Dorian, I too am feasting on life's pleasures.

......I hope my painting isn't becoming too dark and wizened 😏

Wisened instead hopefully.
