Langkawi

I took the easy way to get back up to the north of Malaysia, as I have travelled a bit 'arse about face' having not researched probably as much as I should have and in trying to avoid Kuala Lumpur.

So I flew - it took one hour after a few delays - and cost £30

There was a mix up with finding my hostel as there were two places with the same name and the one I got the grab to was the wrong place - why didn't I see it was permanently closed on google maps?

In the end I had to phone them and get a second grab to the right place.

It was an ok place, close to a main road and not near the beach, but the walk to the beach area is very nice and rural and I enjoyed it

Main road

It's quite touristy, mainly concentrated in the Cenang area.

There was a huge full moon on the night I arrived - very low in the sky (the picture isn't great)

Yesterday I had a beach day - the beaches are quite nice - the sea was calm and cool and good for swimming and just floating. I got a little sun burnt

.....bay watch

To be honest - I think this place will be ruined with tourism - I know - guilty as charged.

There's already one fairly 'high rise' building. It is funny how all the cafes seem to play 'Caribbean' music - I guess this gives off a 'chilled island' vibe but it's daft really.

There was building work going on between two of the beaches, where the river flows into the sea. It was very dirty.

I switched hostels to a nicer one. It is the one Rabia recommended to me, run by a German man called Thomas. Online it said it was full. I popped in and asked and there's lots of space in the dorm.

They too play Caribbean music in their bar/café area but this song came on too and kind of suited the place more.
