To Krabi

10th February

I must say, I was not looking forward to the 6 hour journey to Krabi. That said, the very same day, last year, I was having my tooth pulled out so this journey was marginally better!

It began with trying to check in - there were several queues at desks - none of them saying Krabi. I asked some of the luggage porters - and they pointed to an empty desk. The guy at the desk next to it said "10 minutes" so I waited and thankfully someone arrived who had my name on their list.

I was given a card with a number and sat and waited with other people with the same card.

Then we were called forward and the numbers read out in order and off we went to the boat. This was a speed boat, and 'boy' was it speedy. It was literally jumping out of the water! An Asian woman sat next to me looked terrified and when they started moving people for weight distribution (I think) and handing out sick bags, I just hoped this wasn't the bulk of the 6 hour journey.

Thankfully we were only on the boat for just over an hour and it got calmer towards the end.

We arrived at a terminal where I had no idea where to go next. The woman at the information desk told me to make my way out through the exit and turn left. After a quick toilet stop I did so, walking past multiple stalls and people holding cards, but was still confused as to where to go. I asked another lady - she asked which company I'd booked with - it was 'jolly travel' ha ha - and she then pointed to an office over the road that, thankfully, had Jolly Travel on the sign.

They wanted the name of my hostel and then I was in and out of several different minibuses before they were happy I was on the right one to Krabi.

Was I feeling 'Crabby' by now?.......not so much. You have to just go with the flow.

This was a four hour journey in a packed minibus, but somehow, I managed to sleep and we did have a stop half way.

Coming into Krabi town:

After checking into the hostel, I met up with Caroline (a friend from home) & her husband Chris, who are on holiday here.

It is sooo nice to see a familiar face and chat & have someone to go for dinner with.

The river front at night is all lit up and they have a bustling night market.
