Sanur Sunrise

Got up early to see the sunrise and then a sit on the beach for a while before having to check out of my room. The sunrise was really beautiful and I played around with filters to get nice pictures of the light as the sun came up

It was nice to sit and watch the swallows flying about

Later I had a lot of time to kill before heading to the airport so I sat at a beach cafe and had my last lunch in Bali, and Indonesia .......it's a hard life I know!

My time in Indonesia has been a mixture of pleasures - with a little home-sickness, which I didn't expect -and I feel very lucky to have sampled some of the highlights of a few of these diverse islands.

Bali seems to be a very popular place, particularly for Australians, and Sanur seemed a relaxed place and I almost felt I was already in Australia, in a way. It is a popular destination for them for holidays and also for second homes.

The area of Denpasar is clogged with traffic and the island is heaving under the weight of tourism. On the way to the airport, they were relaying pipework all along the pavements as a result of the flooding a month or so ago. The taxi driver was saying that the Island is becoming more and more populated, with many people from other parts of Indonesia coming to work there.

I would love to return one day to see more of Bali, Perhaps the volcanoes and places in the north.
I have no interest in seeing the 'popular' areas of Kuta and Canggu. These are party places!
I would also like to visit Mount Rinjani in Lombok and maybe Flores and Komodo, and the Island of Sumatra sounds fascinating, with rain forest and Tigers.

It would have been really useful to have been able to hire a scooter to explore, which would have saved money and given greater freedom, but I was not confident to do this, having never ridden one before. ......

I think some lessons or practise might help if I do return.

One last thing to add.

When my Grandparents came back from Australia they stopped off in Jakarta & bought these statues. I remember looking at these as a child in my Grandparents' flat. I found them fascinating then. I think they still resemble the Indonesian facial features.
