Tukuwompa Park/Lake Samsonvale

8th November

Left the peaceful valley early.....and was excited as a full size kangaroo hopped across the road in front of me......safely to the other side. He/She was beautiful!

I wanted to make headway back up towards the Van's home, so drove around 1 hour 45 to Bullocky rest area on the lake.

Not using the Sat Nav, the route seemed pretty straight forward - M1 motorway (Hah hah!) towards Brisbane then M3.....etc etc......I wrote it down........I somehow managed to navigate my way right through the centre of Brisbane without going wrong! Hurray! It felt a bit weird driving along the Brisbane river in the centre of the city!.....also managed to avoid the tolls....and then thought - oh! does Brisbane have a congestion charge - but no.......I checked.

The rest area was good & obviously a place for peole to come & have picnics & partys under the shaded picnic tables.

They were all setting up for the day when I arrived.......the over 60's picnic, the baby shower party, the kid's Birthday party & the 'all dressed in black' tattooed party......with a large set of balloons that would pop every 20 minutes as the heat of the day rose.

All the parks have BBQ Stations too - like a proper brick built thing with hot plates - but I've never seen anyone using one.....guess it could be a fire risk...

I had some breakfast then went for a walk, spotting some beautiful coloured birds and butterflies.

There were black swans on the lake and cranes.

The curls fallen from a tree had fluffy seedlings inside.....reminded of a lock of golden hair........

It was a nice peaceful day........after I moved away from the tattooed party's music.

I sat & chilled in the sunshine & the shade all day 😊

Wasn't sure if you could stay the night here as it said it closed at 6pm & there were gates on the entrance, so I drove to Petrie where there was a car park that seemed quiet.

Petrie seems a really nice 'countryside' town. Lots of houses raised off the ground, which seems common in Queensland.....I guess it helps prevent them flooding out.

There were many wildlife warnings, particularly for 'koalas crossing'. It's their breeding season but I think they are quite shy & difficult to spot, sadly, though I've been looking out!

The word koala comes from the Aborigine meaning 'does not drink' as they get all their liquid from the Eucalyptus leaves
