St Kilda

24th November

Change of hostel today, partly due to the cliquey atmosphere in the present hostel.....more on that later. Plus I fancied a move anyway so booked into another 'Little Drifter' for two nights.

Spent the morning walking & sitting along the seafront including treating myself to coffee & breakfast at a beachfront café.

On the tram on the way to the new place 3 ticket inspectors got on and caught out three travellers - a couple of asian lads & a girl who looked very upset.

They can prosecute you & with a criminal record I suspect you wouldn't be able to return to Australia.

I was unsure of the system when I arrived and was tapping my credit card which didn't work, so I did do a couple of illegal journeys! In Melboure they use the myki card.

I bought a 7 day pass one which has been really useful, to go on trains, trams & buses all over the place.

In the hostel some were saying you never see inspectors.......just goes to show!......

The system is such that you have to tap on the readers with your card.

On the tram announcements they say 'dont forget to touch on your myki'...which sounds pervy to me 🤣

Its touch on only, on the tram, not off, but on & off on buses & trains....the inspectors can tell if you haven't tapped it.

Talking of prosecution, Sam on the walking tour told us about a French guy who free climbed this building - which happens to be close to the new hostel

- apparently the police waited for him to climb up then down, arrested him & he was deported & banned from ever returning to Australia.

Mad!

I checked into the new place and wandered the city a bit more.

These are pictures of houses & streets slightly out of the city near the park:

Feeling smothered by the city I had a picnic tea in Princes Park where I got chatting to a British lady who moved to Melbourne for a year, 8 years ago and never left.

We shared life stories & she was going to give me her number to have a chat or a walk some time but sadly....it wasn't really worth it with me only being in Melbourne for 2 more days......shame.
