Got up early for the ferry. The stupid Satnav told me the road was closed - state highway 2 - & sent me on this mad detour up a really winding steep road & back down......I don’t think the road was closed but didn't want to chance it & miss the check-in.
It also sent me wrong at the port, down a dead end!
Eventually got there fine. Sailing on the Connemara.
The ferry ride was quite something, beautiful scenery, blue sky & warm sun. Most people ended up on deck taking photos
Getting off the ferry I drove towards Nelson - through a very green mountain range - then on to the stopping place, but felt a bit dumpy so headed on towards Tasman, but the stop there had been decimated by a flood earlier in the year & I considered staying there but saw this on the ground ...looked like someone had caught & gutted an animal....or something else........
So I looked at a couple of campsites back in Moteuka, but they looked very full, and the town car parks ....I wasn't sure about.
Stopped at the side of the road to have some food - crackers & pate & cheese, I had bought for my nice Christmas tea.....didn't feel very special, I must say, with cars speeding past.
Drove further up the coast to Kaiteriteri, very pretty
Beachside car parks had signs & seemed obvious so drove to a campsite where reception was closed, of course, being Christmas day. There was a car park on some rough ground near by.....no signs....probably will stay here.
