Hokitika Gorge

28th December

Wanted to see the 'Pancake Rocks' at Punakaiki - formed under the sea from layers of shell deposits and limestone which then got compressed over millions of years, then pushed up by the forces from the movement of the tectonic plates.

I pushed on to Hokitika Gorge, where the Kiwi couple suggested I did the walk. It was awesome! The Turkquoise water colour, being caused by the glacial melt water mixing with the minerals in the river bed

Then I did the tree top walk at Lake Mahinapua

It was very high, and a little uncomfortable,  even though I'm kinda OK with heights....on solid ground.....

On Wiki camps there was a pub, 10 mins away that let's you stay in the car park for free, as long as you register with them at the bar!

I thought it only right to buy a beer! I think they get paid for the use of the carpark with people buying food & drinks.

Not a bad view either!

Realised the name of the town!

They had a band playing later too.
