14th February
Felt strangely sad today. The hostel was all decorated for Valentines day.
What was lovely was a little trip on a boat to the Mangroves and cave with Cadge & Chris.
I managed to slip on the walkway to the boat & bash my coccyx & hand. Bloody idiot!
Was treated to dinner which was so nice! My last day & evening in Krabi. I like it here as it feels real.
Plus some second hand pink trainers I bought. I realised after, the soul was loose on one of them, but I managed to glue it back on with glue from the 7 - eleven. There are plenty of these in Asia, although not in Indonesia I noticed. They were introduced there in 2009 but exited in 2017 due to low profitability & intense competition from local chains.
A little shop trivia.
Strange Thailand laws - its illegal to vape in Thailand but not smoke dope - although its discouraged.
And apparently its illegal to leave your house not wearing underwear, as it violates public decency laws.......I'm not sure how they would know - do they do spot checks!?
Next morning my hand and finger were a little swollen and sore but I'm sure it's not broken.
Caught the bus to Phuket - I'd already got my ticket online and collected it at the bus station where the lady said to wait & she'd tell me when the bus comes.
The bus that came was another small minibus - crammed full - we stopped for a break after only 15 minutes. The driver seemed determined that I should buy something from the stalls - chattering & encouraging me in Thai - I don't know why he only did this to me.......it was the same the other day on the journey to Krabi.......that man wasn't even the driver of my bus, but was convinced I needed coffee and was trying to get me to have some from the kiosk.
I managed to sleep most of the way even though I had a front row seat, and the driver was driving like an absolute maniac.
There are duel carriageways but there doesn't seem to be any system for keeping left and overtaking on the right. It's just a 'free for all'.
At the Phuket terminal 2 bus station I saw a sign for the local bus but no-one was waiting there, so I thought I'd try my luck on the road, ignoring the pleas from the expensive taxi drivers.
Waited a while at what I thought was a bus stop. A group of English lads were trying to put their stuff in a taxi but then I think the driver decided there wasn't room for them all and stared driving off with the boot open.... they retrieved their stuff then another taxi driver came and offered them a ride for 400 baht......they refused.
I looked at Grab to see the price for a ride to the old town where my hostel is......200 baht. OK - its less than a fiver but a lot, I thought, for here.
I started walking and after 10 minutes an older Thai lady called out to me, asking where I was going. She was a local and spoke reasonable English. She said she was waiting for the bus and said I should wait with her. "Too hot & far to walk" she said & the bus is only 15 bhat.
I ended up waiting & chatting with her. It wasn't a bus stop, as far as I could see, but the bus stopped when she flagged it, and the bus conducter lady took my money.
It was great, I thanked the Thai lady, as I got dropped at the other bus station which was just a short walk to my hostel - The beehive.
